Overview[]
Point of Divergence[]
- Mark's timeline diverged from the prime timeline of the series during the events of "Devour," in which the Inspector sacrificed himself to seal the rift instead of Mark. The resulting explosion ended up blowing up part of the moon and unleashing a swarm of rift monsters into the world. Olivia Marconi tried organizing a resistance movement, but she and most of Pacific Glade's population were slaughtered by the monsters. Three years after the Inspector's death, Mark and his son, Rory Hannigan, are the only survivors left in the ruins of their town.
Dark Side of the Moon[]
- While pursuing a Lurker, Mark encounters Ruth Hannigan, Zachary Atwater, and the Ferryman, who all traveled to the Moonverse from an alternate timeline. Mark initially believes Ruth to be a doppelganger, then mistakes her for his actual wife, who was taken by the monsters in the initial invasion. He struggles to reconcile his feelings for this new Ruth while knowing his own Ruth might still be out there. The trio from the other world help Mark and Rory take down the swarm of Lurkers, but when Ruth offers them the chance to come back to the prime timeline, Mark refuses. He and Rory stay behind in the hopes of saving their own Ruth someday.
Journey's End[]
- After wandering the desolate roads of the Moonverse with Rory, Mark comes to realize that the two of them might be the only survivors left in the whole world. He finally decides to take Ruth up on her offer when she returns to his dimension with the Inspector and Olivia Marconi. Back in the prime timeline, Mark struggles to resume a "normal" life, but ultimately settles into a period of peace with his newfound family.
Notes[]
- Mark wears one of the Inspector's fragments, which takes the form of his trademark fedora. This version of the Inspector dropped it intentionally when leaping into the helicopter, so that his friends could keep a piece of him after he was gone. The fragment is returned to the original timeline's Inspector by Ruth and Atwater.
