David Farrow Fiction Wiki

Stephen Hannigan is a resident of Pacific Glade and the adolescent son of Mark and Ruth Hannigan. His counterpart in the Everglades is a dog named Matheson.

Overview[]

Remember Me[]

  • Although not as outspoken as his brother, Rory, Stephen is clearly caught up in the delusion created by Marcy McKenna and shares the town's hatred for the (supposed) murderer John Whedon.

Devour[]

  • Stephen had just left his brother to grab a snack downstairs when the Hannigan home collapsed, killing Rory on the floor above. He is traumatized by his brother's death and the knowledge that if he had stayed in the room, he would be dead too.

Fallen Night[]

  • After the events of the Pacific Glade quake, Stephen and Ruth move in with Olivia Marconi and Janine Zimmerman. The four of them form an unusual but tight-knit family. At the funeral service for Mark and Rory, Stephen leaves a beloved action figure on his brother's grave.

A Neverglades Halloween[]

  • Stephen attends the Inspector's Halloween party as a "teething vampire." When the Semblance brings everyone's costumes to life, Stephen grows a pair of razor sharp fangs and tries to attack his mother, who barricades him in a locked room for his own safety. He is returned to normal when Ruth and Marconi manage to drive off the Semblance.

Temple of the Moon[]

  • Stephen's family flies out to Connecticut to see him off on his first day of college. He is understandably shaken when students on campus begin committing suicide due to the influence of the Data Entity and the cult website "Temple of the Moon." He helps his mother get the hypnotized students to safety so they can no longer be used by Richard Temple as leverage for his plan. Despite these events, he decides to stay at St. Dominic's.

Brother's Keeper[]

  • In his sophomore year, Stephen starts seeing what he assumes to be Rory's ghost around campus. When he has trouble reaching Ruth and her friends back in Pacific Glade, instinct tells him he needs to return home. He leaves his school and takes a road trip across the country, catching buses and trains and hitchhiking with travelers like Rick Tremblay. When he arrives at St. Florence Hospital, he is taken to safety by Paul Ingram, who agrees to help him find his mother. Stephen ends up entering the Ferryman's portal in order to follow the rescue team into the multiverse.

Dark Side of the Moon[]

  • Stephen emerges in the ruins of the Hanging Rock in the Moonverse and reunites with the alternate versions of Mark Hannigan and Rory. He convinces Ruth to return to the prime timeline with him, arguing that it's still their home. The family holds each other close before splitting up once again.

Journey's End[]

  • Stephen and Rory become close again after everyone returns to the prime timeline. The Hannigans like to take nature hikes together, and over time the family settles into a new sense of normalcy.

Multiverse Incarnations[]

Dark Side of the Moon[]

  • Before the Inspector sacrificed himself in the Moonverse, Stephen was killed by falling debris in the quake, similar to Rory Hannigan in the “prime” timeline.

Silver Screen[]

  • In this story’s universe, Stephen is a grown adult and a world-famous director who goes by the name “Steve Hannigan.” He reluctantly helps produce a biopic about the Inspector’s life (Dark Avenger: The Inspector Story) that takes major liberties with real-world events. He owes much of his success to the Chronicler, who rewrote enough of the timeline to give him the career boost he needed to share his stories.

All Things End[]

  • In this story’s universe, Stephen is an ordinary teenager just like his prime timeline counterpart. He stands by his father after Mark comes back from the dead, although ultimately comes to accept his death with the help of his mother Ruth.

Tourist Trap[]

  • In this story’s universe, Stephen is transported behind the rift (along with the rest of Pacific Glade) in the Inspector’s effort to quarantine the town and keep the swarm of time-eaters from escaping. He is killed when the Sightless razes their dimension into nothing.

The Old Block[]

  • In this story’s universe, Stephen is a grown man with two young children named Mark and Maddie. He has a prosthetic arm from an incident in his youth where his brother Rory, while possessed by a hive-mind entity called the Plexus, amputated his limb with an ax. Stephen seems to have lost his wife, Grace, many years ago, and he begins to unravel when his children go missing too.
